An American army sergeant allegedly shot and wounded five other soldiers in Fort Stewart in Georgia, using his personal gun, authorities said.

The shooting in the second area of the combat team of the armored brigade was informed at 10:56 AM and the Suspicious Automated Logistics Sergeant. Quornelius Radford was arrested at 11:35 am, said Fort Stewart. Since then, all blocking measures have risen, Brig. General John Lubas, the Third Infantry Division and the Commander of the Army Aerodrome of Fort Stewart-Hunter, said at a press conference.

A reason is not clear, said Lubas, but the shooting involved the 28 -year -old Radford co -workers and was in Radford’s “workplace”. He used a personal gun, but it is not clear how he brought it to his workplace, Lubas added.

The alleged shooter in today’s shooting incident in Fort Stewart is identified as the sergeant. Quornelius Radford, a 28 -year -old automatized logistics sergeant from Jacksonville, Florida.

Lubas praised the “brave soldiers” who said “immediately intervened” and approached the suspect. He said that “no doubt, they avoided lower.”

The five victims are in stable conditions and is expected to recover, said Lubas. Hospital officials said that two of the victims were transferred from Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, which is a trauma center of level 1 to about 40 miles from Fort Stewart.

Radford has been interviewed by army researchers and is in confinement prior to trial, Lubas said.

Radford, who is from Jacksonville, Florida, has not previously deployed in combat, Lubas said. He had been arrested locally by a DUI, Lubas said, and pointed out that the arrest was “unknown to its chain of command until the [shooting] It happened and began to investigate the databases of the application of the law. “

Lubas emphasized that, although it is still early in the investigation, he said they are not aware that the suspect has previous behavioral problems or disciplinary.

Lubas also said that it is still “very safe in the security” of Fort Stewart.

The governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp said on social networks, “we keep the victims, their families and all who respond to the call to serve in our hearts and prayers.”

President Donald Trump has been informed about the shooting, according to the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

The complete circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.

Access to combat firearms in an American military personnel at the base is highly restricted, with weapons that are stored in an armory at the base. The use of firearms is limited only to when soldiers participate in field training, and weapons are returned to the armory at the end of that training.

Military personnel are allowed to have legally registered personal weapons, but there are restrictions on how they can be taken to a base.
