Scott Laramie, the victim’s stepfather Maddie Mogen, read a statement in his name and Karen Laramie, Mogen’s mother, while Bryan Kohberger, with orange jail clothes, watched.

“Karen and I are common people, but we live extraordinary lives because we had Maddie. Maddie was taken meaningless and brutally in a sudden act of evil,” Laramie said.
“From Maddie’s loss, there is a vacuum in our hearts, home and family, an endless vacuum,” he said.
Laramie said Mogen’s mother suffered from anxiety and depression after her daughter’s death, not sure how to continue.
“We support the guilt agreement. The company must protect against this evil. As for the accused, we will not waste the words, we will nor fall into hatred and bitterness … evil does not deserve our time and attention,” Laramie said. “We have finished being victims. We will recover our lives.”
