Lyme’s disease is an infectious disease transmitted by ticks that, if not, can affect joints, heart and nervous system, according Centers for disease control and prevention.
Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated effectively with an antibiotic course of 10 to 14 days. However, in some cases, prolonged symptoms can persist after treatment, such as fatigue, body pain and difficulty with concentration or memory. This condition is sometimes known as Lyme disease syndrome after treatment, or PTLD.
Timberlake, 44, did not share more details of his diagnosis or treatment.
The former *NSYNC member launched his Forget Tomorrow World tour in April and made his final show on Wednesday in Türkiye.
In February, Timberlake canceled his last American show of the tour only a few hours before taking the stage in Columbus, Ohio, telling fans on social networks that he was fighting against the flu.
More recently, Timberlake faced fans criticism in the European stage of his tour, who accused him of singing very few of his live songs during his performance and, instead, they asked the crowd to sing the lyrics.
By publicly revealing his diagnosis of Lyme’s disease, Timberlake wrote on social networks that he was glad to continue his tour, despite the health struggles he faced.
“I not only tried my mental tenacity for myself, but now I have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget,” he wrote. “It was reluctant to talk about this because I was always raised to keep something like this for yourself. But I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they are not misunderstood.”
What to know about Lyme’s disease
Timberlake is not alone in the fight against Lyme’s disease, the most common vector disease in the United States, according to CDC.
Other celebrities who have spoken publicly about their struggles with the disease include the comedian Amy Schumersingers Shania Twain and Justin Bieber and reddit co -founder Alexis Ohanian.
The disease, caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi bacteria, is transmitted to humans through tick bites and it is more likely to contract in the late spring, summer and autumn. In most cases, the tick must be linked to the skin for at least 24 hours before the bacteria can be transmitted.
The symptoms appear as soon as three days after the tick bite and include fever, headache and fatigue.
Most cases of LYME disease can be treated with antibiotics during 10 to 14 days. If it is not, a wide range of symptoms can be developed depending on the infection stage that includes fever, eruption, facial paralysis, cardiac beats and irregular arthritis.
Lyme’s disease is more commonly in the northeast and upper west.
The CDC recommended Preventive measures such as treating your clothes and equipment with products containing 0.5% permethrin. They also always recommend making a “ICT verification” after being outside and using Deet insect repellent.
Garrapatas can also enter the house through clothes and pets, so CDC recommends verifying pets for ticks and falling drying clothes over high heat for 10 minutes after reaching inside to kill the ticks.
If you are ever found in a situation in which you are bitten by a tick, the CDC recommends throwing gently but firmly close to the tick’s head until you move away from the skin.
People who are outdoors in areas that may have ticks should also perform full body control when they return, including verification under the arms, inside and around the ears, inside the navel, behind the knees, inside and around the hair, between the legs and around the waist, the CDC says.
