The Trump administration lifted sanctions to Israeli settlers accused of killing the Palestinian activist

An Israeli settler who, according to Israeli officials, is suspected of shooting and kills a Palestinian activist linked to the Oscar winning film “no other land” had been sanctioned by the Biden administration for alleged violence against the Palestinians, sanctions raised by the Trump administration.

Yinon Levi, the alleged shooter, according to Israeli officials, faced financial sanctions imposed last year under the then President Joe Biden after being summoned by allegedly inciting violence against Palestinian civilians and the lands of burns in burns.

In statements to the International Chief of Abc News, James Longman, last year after the sanctions of Biden, Levi and his wife, Sapir, denied the accusations cited in the sanctions and said that they initially thought that the sanctions were a “joke.”

“We are here and we have to defend ourselves and nothing more,” Sapir Levi told Longman.

Shortly after assuming the position in January, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that raised the sanctions and eliminated the name of Levi, among others, of the United States “listings of people and people especially designated.”

Local officials confirmed that Awdah Hathaleen, 31, was shot dead in the 31-year-old UMM Al-Khair village on Monday.

The father of three children was an activist who worked in the film, “no other land”, which tells the story of a web community through the lens of a Palestinian activist. The film won an Oscar in March for the best documentary feature film.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, Hathaleen was also a teacher who taught at Al-Saray’a high school.

In a video Posted in xThe director of “No other land”, Yuval Abraham, called Hathaleen a “friend” and said he was “triggered at the top of the body.”

According to Israel police, “the Palestinians threw stones at civil vehicles that legally carried out work in the area” and a firearm discharge was given. A total of five Palestinians and two foreigners were arrested by Israel’s defense forces “under suspicion of participation,” police said.

Initially without a name, the suspect was questioned by “a reckless behavior that resulted in the death and illegal use of a firearm,” said Israel’s police in a statement. They added that a court had ordered the person who was released for house arrest until Friday, denying a police application to extend his arrest.

ABC News has confirmed that Levi was arrested after Monday’s incident, according to Israeli officials. It is not clear if Levi has been accused and if he has commented publicly.

During an informative press session on Tuesday, the spokeswoman for the State Department, Tammy Bruce, diverted questions about the accusations against Levi and raised the sanctions, instead of postponing the Israeli government to investigate.

“We decrease the loss of lives everywhere, that has been the distinctive seal of the work that this administration is doing,” he said. “We do not comment on investigations that belong to another government.”

In a statement on Tuesday, representative John Garamendi, a California Democrat, criticized the violence of Israeli settlers in the West Bank and demanded answers about Hathaleen’s death.

“Raising the sanctions to the people who perpetrate these unacceptable acts only emboldene to violent settlers and sends a sign that the United States does not hold violent actors,” Garamendi said.
