Witness recounts the building of the Midtown Manhattan office: "I sent a text message to my parents who loved them"

Jessica Chen was seeing a presentation on the second floor of 345 Park Ave. at Midtown Manhattan on Monday night with about 150 people when she said she heard multiple shots fired “in rapid succession” on the floor under it.

He hastened a conference room with dozens of people, where they finally locked themselves in the room using tables and “they simply stayed still,” News Live told ABC in a telephone interview on Monday night.

“I think it was very, very evident through all this that many of us were young, many of us go through training in primary school what to do in an active shooter situation,” he said. “Unfortunately we were prepared.”

A man with body armor and carrying a high -power rifle had shot and killed at least four people, including a police officer out of service who worked in the building, police sources told ABC News. After apparently locked on the 33rd floor, the suspect was found dead so it is believed to be a self -inflicted gunshot wound, the sources added.

Amid the active situation, people desperately sought places to hide in the conference room on the second floor, Chen said.

“We were hidden behind the great monitor. Many people were on the floor. We invited many of the tables,” he said. “Some people, if they were a little later arriving there, unfortunately, they had to pull the curtains on themselves.”

Cen said that someone in the room with her had a “direct line” with the police that could update them as the incident was developed and told them to remain in place. She said many people were also on their phones, verifying updates on the situation and reaching their loved ones.

“I sent a text message to my parents who loved them,” he said. “I sent a text message to people well in my life that I love them.”

She said those in the room tried to help each other as calm as possible.

“We were honestly sincerely, very scared,” he said. “Every American has probably thought about the situation of what they should do if an active shooter occurred? I have passed through some semi-recognitions in primary school, but even then, nothing could have prepared any of us.”

“I think we were all frozen,” he continued. “We were all shocked. Nothing could describe that feeling.”

Once they confirmed that the shooter was on the 33rd floor, the police made them out slowly, he said.

She said she didn’t wear shoes when she left and stepped on glass, although otherwise she was fine.

“I think that many of the people I have spoken with, we are all coming to the same conclusion that this happens too often in the United States,” Chen said. “We really thank all the schools from all over the United States that make sure they regularly train their students about exactly what to do in situations like this.”

“It is very unfortunate that all Americans have had to think about it, but it is the reality of the world we live in,” he added.
